This Sangye Menla statue was handmade using the traditional lost wax sculpting method. As a result, the buyer can rest assured they have purchased a monastic quality statue. The symbols of Sangye Menla such as the myrobalan plant, medicine bowl and the robe are engraved with fine detail. Additionally, the statue features a brilliant 24K gold finish applied using the fire gilding method. Indeed, the Nepali artisans have long been the preferred source of the Tibetan monasteries for their sculpture and ritual items.

Our gold gilded 8.25″ Sangye Menla statue sits in classic full lotus pose. He is holding the stem of the myrobalan plant between the thumb and index finger of his right hand. Additionally, he has the bowl of Lapis nectar in the palm of his left hand. The statue is also displaying the Varada “boon granting” mudra with the right hand to symbolize the Buddha gave the gift of medicine to sentient life.

The Myrobalan plant is an ancient herbal remedy that is associated with Medicine Buddha. However, in Buddhism it has an important symbolic meaning. This is because Buddhists believe that the defilements are at the core of all afflictions. Therefore, perfected wisdom is the cure for all human suffering.

In the palm of the left hand our Sangye Menla statue holds the bowl of Lapis nectar. The Lapis medicine is the cure for all defilements. However, this medicine can only be acquired through diligent meditation practice and following the prescribed precepts. If done properly, it will cure all suffering.
